Sparks Restaurant to Pay $56,000 and Provide Injunctive Relief in EEOC  Retaliation Lawsuit

A federal district court has ruled that Sparx Restaurant of Menomonie, Wis., must pay back pay and interest to a former employee who was fired in retaliation for complaining about a racist display in the workplace, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) announced today.  Added to damages already awarded by the jury in the case, the EEOC will have recovered an aggregate of more than $56,000 for the former employee.  The court also enjoined Sparx from engaging in similar conduct and required training of Sparx's owner, Chris Brekken, and other managers.

EEOC Releases FY 2013 Enforcement  And Litigation Data

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) today released a comprehensive set of fiscal year 2013 data tables showing that the agency obtained the highest monetary recovery in agency history through its administrative process, increasing by $6.7 million to $372.1 million.  The data tables also provide detailed breakdowns for the 93,727 charges of workplace discrimination the agency received.  The fiscal year runs Oct. 1 to Sept. 30.

DolgenCorp, LLC/Dollar General to Settle  EEOC Sexual Harassment Lawsuit

Dolgencorp, LLC, also known as Dollar General Corporation, a retailer of basic consumer goods headquartered in Goodlettsville, Tenn. has agreed to pay $27,500 and provide other relief to settle a sexual harassment lawsuit filed by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the agency announced today.  The EEOC charged that Dollar General allowed a store manager to sexually harass female employees and then failed to take the proper remedial action against the manager.

MMR Constructors Settles  EEOC Racial Harassment Lawsuit

MMR Constructors, Inc., a worldwide labor contractor, has agreed to pay $50,000 and provide other relief to settle a racial harassment lawsuit filed by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the agency announced today.  The EEOC had charged that a black employee, who worked as a technician for MMR at the Ash Grove Cement Plant in Foreman, Ark., was subjected to racially offensive language, graffiti and death threats by white employees.

La Oficina del Distrito de Charlotte de la Comisión Para la Igualdad de Oportunidades en el Empleo de los EE.UU. (EEOC) entró en un Memorando de Entendimiento con el Consulado de México en Raleigh, Carolina del Norte hoy. El acuerdo establece una relación de colaboración constante entre estas dos entidades para proporcionarles a ciudadanos mexicanos con información, orientación y acceso a recursos en la prevención de la discriminación en el lugar de trabajo. El Cónsul General de México Javier Díaz de León y Reuben Daniels, Jr., director de la Oficina de Distrito de Charlotte, firmaron el acuerdo.
