Journal Disposition Settles EEOC Disability Discrimination Lawsuit

Journal Disposition, the former operator of IPC Print Services, Inc., a full-service print, manufacturing and distribution company in St. Joseph, Mich., and employing at least 200 people, has agreed to settle a disability discrimination suit brought by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) for $55,000.

Courtesy Building Services Settles EEOC Sex Harassment Suit

Courtesy Building Services, Inc., a janitorial and construction service which has offices in Dallas and Fort Worth, has settled a sexual harassment lawsuit brought by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the federal agency announced today. Under a consent decree, the company will pay a former employee $27,500 in damages and attorney fees, and agrees to monitoring by the EEOC to ensure compliance with the law for a period of seven years.

Garfield Medical Center To Pay $530,000 For Sexual Harassment, Retaliation

The Garfield Medical Center, an acute care facility in Monterey Park, Calif., will pay $530,000 to settle a lawsuit alleging the sexual harassment of its staff, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) announced today. According to the federal agency, several of the female targets of the harassment were either retaliated against or compelled to quit after their complaints were ignored by hospital management.

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) finished fiscal year 2011 with a ten percent decrease in its pending charge inventory—the first such reduction since 2002, achieved the highest ever monetary amounts through administrative enforcement, and received a record number of charges of discrimination, the agency reported in its annual Performance and Accountability Report (PAR) filed today.

A federal court has ordered AutoZone, Inc., a leading auto parts retailer, to reasonably accommodate the disabilities of its retail employees throughout central Illinois, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) announced today. Entering final judgment in a disability discrimination suit brought by the EEOC, the court also held the company liable for $415,000 in damages and lost wages and $9,045 in litigation costs.

Mobile Community Action To Pay $65,000 To Settle EEOC Retaliation Suit

Mobile Community Action, Inc. has agreed to settle a retaliation lawsuit filed by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the agency announced today. The EEOC had charged that the private domestic non-profit corporation violated Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 by firing Donte Bumpers after he opposed sexually discriminatory practices.
