Simon Property Group To Pay $125,000 To Settle EEOC National Origin Discrimination Lawsuit

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) today announced the $125,000 settlement of a national origin harassment lawsuit it had filed against Simon Property Group, Inc., which identifies itself as the largest real estate company in the United States. The EEOC had charged that Latino janitors working for the company were subjected to daily verbal attacks because of their national origin. Simon Property Group owns and/or manages various shopping malls throughout the country, including the Forum Shops at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, the site where the EEOC said the abuse occurred.

G2 Secure Staff Pays $30,000 to Resolve EEOC Disability Discrimination Lawsuit

An Irving, Texas-based staffing company will pay $30,000 and furnish other relief to resolve a disability discrimination lawsuit filed by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the agency announced today.  The EEOC sued G2 Secure Staff, LLC in September 2011, charging that the company unlawfully refused to accommodate a disabled applicant who needed an accommodation during the hiring process and subsequently denied him employment because of his disability.

A Winston-Salem, N.C.- based electric company will pay $40,000 and furnish significant remedial relief to settle a race discrimination lawsuit filed by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the agency announced today.  The agency charged that Salem Electric Company fired a black employee because of his race.

Maverik Agrees To Pay $115,000 To Settle EEOC Lawsuit For Disability Discrimination

Maverik, Inc., doing business as Maverik Country Stores, a billion-dollar company operating approximately 200 gas station/convenience stores in 10 western states, will pay $115,000 and furnish other relief to settle a lawsuit filed by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the federal agency announced today. The lawsuit, filed on Sept. 30, 2010 in federal court in Cheyenne, Wyo., charged Maverik with violating the Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA) by allegedly failing to accommodate and then firing an HIV-positive bakery clerk.

Sears Settles EEOC Suit For Race, Age, Sex Discrimination And Retaliation

Sears, Roebuck & Co., one of the nation's largest retailers, will pay $100,000 and furnish other relief to settle a race, sex and age discrimination and retaliation lawsuit filed by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the agency announced today. The EEOC had charged that Sears subjected an African-American female employee over the age of 40 to race, age and sex discrimination as well as retaliation for complaining about it.
