Chair Janet Dhillon

Sixteenth Chair of the EEOC, May 15, 2019 - January 20, 2021

Janet Dhillon was sworn in as Chair of the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) on May 15, 2019. Ms. Dhillon was nominated by President Donald J. Trump and served on the Commission from May 2019 to November 2022, and as Chair from May 15, 2019 until January 20, 2021.

During Ms. Dhillon’s tenure as Chair, the EEOC secured more than $535 million in recovery for victims of workplace discrimination. Additionally, the agency increased the percentage of charges resolved and those with outcome favorable to the charging party increased by nearly two percent, to 17.4 percent. Under her leadership, the agency also provided critical, and easy to understand educational information to the public in response to the pandemic to address the intersection of COVID-19 and federal employment discrimination laws.

Prior to joining the EEOC, Ms. Dhillon served as Executive Vice President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary of Burlington Stores, Inc. She previously served as Executive Vice President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary of J.C. Penney Company, Inc., and before that, as Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer of U.S. Airways Group, Inc.

Ms. Dhillon received her B.A. from Occidental College and her J.D. from UCLA School of Law.
