Arizona Health Companies to Pay $545,000 to Settle EEOC Disability and Pregnancy Discrimination Suit

Carondelet Health Network and Ascension Health, which owned and operated three southern Arizona hospitals, will pay $545,000 to six individuals and provide other significant relief to settle a lawsuit filed by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the agency announced today. The EEOC's lawsuit alleged that the health care companies discriminated against employees with disabilities and pregnant women with pregnancy-related medical conditions.

The Corizon companies provide health care in jails and corrections facilities across the nation, including Arizona.

Janet Dhillon Becomes Chair of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission

Janet Dhillon was sworn in today as the Chair of the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) by Acting Chair Victoria A. Lipnic. She will serve as the 16th Chair of the EEOC. Dhillon was first nominated by President Donald J. Trump on June 29, 2017 and confirmed on May 8, 2019. Her term will end on July 1, 2022.

EEOC Sues O'Reilly Automotive Stores for Sexual Harassment and Retaliation

O'Reilly Automotive Stores, Inc., doing business as O'Reilly Auto Parts, violated federal law by subjecting a class of female employees at an Orlando, Florida store to sexual harassment, U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) charged in a lawsuit it filed today. O'Reilly also subjected one of the female employees to retaliation and forced her to quit, the EEOC said.

Today the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) convened an "Industry Leaders Roundtable Discussion on Harassment Prevention."  The Roundtable continues the EEOC's efforts to lead harassment prevention efforts, including two Commission meetings and a Reconvening of the Select Task Force in the wake of the #MeToo movement.  The roundtable will inform strategies for the next generation of issues flowing from the EEOC Select Task Force on the Study of Harassment in the Workplace in 2015, the task force Co-Chairs' 2016 Report, and the #MeToo movement.

EEOC Proposes Rules Update for Digital Charge System

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) today issued a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) to update private sector procedural regulations to account for digital transmission of documents and communications between the EEOC and the parties. The proposed rule changes recognize the increasing reliance on digital technology by the EEOC and its stakeholders. This NPRM was posted by the Federal Register for public inspection today and will be published in the Federal Register on Feb. 22, 2019. Members of the public wishing to comment on the NPRM will have 60 days from the date of publication to do so, through www.regulations.gov.
