EEOC Sues Alabama Thrift Stores for Disability Discrimination

America's Thrift Stores of Alabama, Inc. (also known as Alabama Thrift Stores) violated federal law by refusing to provide an employee with a reasonable accommodation and subsequently firing her because of her disability, degenerative joint disease, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) charged in a lawsuit filed today.  Alabama Thrift Stores buys new and used items from local charities and department stores to sell to the public, and operates 15 stores in five states.

EEOC Charges LHC Group / Gulf Coast Homecare with Disability Discrimination

LHC Group, a national health care company, violated federal law by discriminating against a field nurse because of her disability, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) charged in a lawsuit it filed today.  The EEOC alleged that LHC Group, doing business as Gulf Coast Homecare in Picayune, Miss., denied Kristy M. Sones a reasonable accommodation and then fired her because of her epilepsy.  LHC provides home care, hospice, telehealth, private duty and long-term acute care through home and facility-based services.

EEOC Sues Staffing Agency for Sex Harassment, Retaliation, and Assigning Workers Based on Sex

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission ("EEOC") filed a class lawsuit yesterday alleging that Source One Staffing, Inc. ("Source One") assigned female employees to a known hostile work environment and retaliated against two female employees who reported that their supervisor was making sexual advances toward them.  The EEOC also claims that Source One categorized jobs as "men's work" or "women's work" and assigned employees accordingly.

A Houston energy company will pay $98,900 and provide additional remedial relief to resolve a discrimination lawsuit filed by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the agency announced today. The EEOC had charged GES Global Energy Services, Inc., (GES) formerly known as IDM Equipment, Inc., and Global Energy Services Operating, LLC, formerly known as IDM Equipment, LLC (Global Energy Services) with race discrimination and retaliation against a group of African-Americans who worked in its "rig-up yard" in Houston.

DXP Enterprises Sued By EEOC For Disability And Age Discrimination

DXP Enterprises, Inc., doing business as DXP Safety Alliance, Inc., violated federal law by subjecting a Farmington, New Mexico woman to disability and age discrimination. In its lawsuit, filed on Sept. 22, 2011, the EEOC said the company fired Connie Brooks because it regarded her as disabled because of a prior back injury, and references were also made to Ms. Brooks' age, 52.
